Preparation

Step 1

In a large saucepan add the milk and bring to a boil. 

Step 2

Once the milk is at a boil, turn the heat off and leave to cool. The optimal temperature should be between 90°F and 120°F.

Step 3

In a large glass bowl thoroughly mix a few tablespoons of the warm milk with the tablespoon of yogurt. Then slowly pour the rest of the milk into the glass bowl and mix again.

Step 4

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a tea towel. Place the bowl in a warm and undisturbed place for at least 8 hours or overnight. 

Step 5 

Transfer the yogurt to the fridge where it will keep for 7-10 days.

Tips and Tricks

Tip #1

Make sure you use whole milk, the fat content in milk is what makes the yogurt thick and creamy.

Tip #2

It may be tempting to check the yogurt but resist the urge to check your yogurt until the 8 hour mark.

Tip #3

Save the last tablespoon of your homemade yogurt to make your next batch. This way you will always have the ability to make fresh homemade yogurt
